SALLY MANN
Sally Mann was an American photographer born and raised in Lexington Virginia, known for large, black and white photographs. She grew up with her two older brothers and parents, who were also interested in photography. She was inspired by her father, who would photograph her nude as a child. She started seriously photographing at age 16, and continued through out college. After she graduated with a BA from Hollins University, she worked as a photographer for a company, but then decided to be an independent photographer. She started photographing her kids naked, but making them pose for hours in the same position until she got the right picture. There has been a lot of controversy about her nude photography, but Mann has not changed her ways. Some people argue that she is not a mother to her kids, but merely just a photographer. I am interested in Sally Mann because her black and white photographs really stood out to me. She has a different style of photography and I think its cool how she her photos look so natural when they took so much time to take.
